Why I Write
I didn’t always know I would become a writer.
I grew up in New Jersey, never suspecting that a love for writing was quietly taking root within me. Years later, when my husband and I moved with our five children to Mexico to develop an off-grid ranch for disadvantaged kids in the middle of the desert, that hidden passion finally found its voice.
In a small back room—surrounded by heat, dust, and stories of deep brokenness—I picked up a pen and began trying to make sense of the world around me. I was writing to understand, to grieve, to hope. And I haven’t stopped since.
Although I hold a master’s degree in psychology, I credit the truest formation of my voice to ten years off-grid in the desert: raising five children, living close to need and beauty, and learning to follow the heart of God into unfamiliar places. Any wisdom that surfaces in my stories comes not from theory alone, but from a life shaped by faith, struggle, and the quiet persistence of grace.
Who My Stories Are For
There is redemption waiting to be born in every story. I believe there is no place too broken, too hidden, or too dark where the Author of Redemption cannot reach.
These are the stories I’ve lived—and the stories I’m drawn to write. Stories where brokenness is named honestly, grace meets us in unexpected places, and the longing for home becomes impossible to ignore.
When we come face to face with our own limits and failures, the only place left to run is home.
We Are God’s Handiwork (His poem): The Heart Behind My Stories
At the heart of Cher’s writing is a deep belief that our lives—marked by both beauty and brokenness—are being shaped with intention. In this deeper reflection, she shares how seasons of shadow and trial can become the very places where God’s love goes deeper and our true selves begin to shine.
